An appealing new guide to critical thinking for college students

Read the Introduction (pdf).

Thinking Your Way to Freedom is a critical thinking textbook that seeks to change dramatically how students think out real life issues that are important in their own lives. It requires that students begin thinking impartially, thus freeing them from invisible bias. It presents a clear method by which students can engage in practical reasoning by recognizing fallacies and constructing convincing arguments. Part of this methodology includes writing 1-page 5-part mini-essays, enhancing students' writing and thinking skills at the same time. There is a coherent set of graphics (66 comics starring two dogs named Diva and Ben) that form a lively visual reinforcement of the various tstrategies required for "thinking one's way to freedom."

“Freedom is a key philosophical idea that is taken seriously in this book. Importantly, freedom is also an idea that is intrinsically interesting to students. The author pulls students into the text by inviting them to view their own status as free agents and as critical thinkers.” —Richard (Mort) Morehouse, Viterbo University
